Its not all business
We're not just about being a successful business.
aup town planning + Polils is a place where anyone wanting to know about, gain advice concerning, and participate in rational discourse regarding - town planning, property development, and the future of the Sunshine Coast - can engage and learn - and build a community of leaders.
It's clear the Sunshine Coast isn't well placed for the massive changes and growth its experiencing. Infrastructure - roads, public transport, sewerage, water supply, health care, libraries, emergency and social housing - all of it - is beyond breaking point.....and a growing city's needs more than seasonal holiday makers, a declining farming sector, and over-55 service industries to live on.
It's easy to blame Councils, I often do, but they're under resourced and, well, it's not just their fault - well not directly at least. The reality is - we live in an age where inspired, rational, and competent leadership is lacking.
There is only one place where such leadership can come from - the people.
So, we're raising awareness of the need for everyone to get interested in town planning....and not just getting planning permits - actually getting involved in planning how the Sunshine Coast will manage growth and change, become a place more welcoming of diversity in all its forms, broaden the economic base, promote more socially and ecologiclly sustainable ways of living - based on an appreciation of the real complexities of urban life.

What town planning means to me
My name is Tony Comrie. I was born and raised in Queensland, then moved to Melbourne in 1997 where I worked as a town planner. I moved home in 2016.
I've pretty much done it all - state and local government, consultancies, developers, big projects, small projects, residential, commercial, industrial, education, aged care, health care, statutory, strategic, policy - you get the idea.
One thing I know for sure - too many town planners (government and private) take themselves too seriously - or don't take what they're supposed to be doing seriously enough.
They get all caught up in the process, the arguments, thinking they're important, the money and prestige, the suits, negotiations, Court appeals, the PIA soirees. etc.
...but town planning's just a tool - for keeping/ people happier, live more satisfying and fulfilling lives in close proximity, minimising their ecological footprints, and building socially coherent communities.
